A New View on Disabilities

WUNDER is designed as an infrastructure to support the collaborative activities of Humanists, Social Scientists, Professionals, and Basic Scientists as they work to meet the challenges and questions presented by disabilities in the global context.

Why a Global Consortium?

People with disabilities have been subjected to medical, economic, educational, social and policy-based ‘gazes’ for millennia. Current challenges facing both the gazers and those gazed upon are crying out for a greater understanding of human variation. This is particularly true in the ‘global’ setting, in which international, multinational and global agents, from corporations to the UN, from multi-campus universities to courts of justice, are struggling to make sense of the variable meanings of disability. Bringing together scholars and academic practitioners from the widest array of disciplines and from a myriad of national contexts holds the greatest promise for helping to explain and perhaps solve those challenges.
